Sakina Jaffrey is known to us Sleepy Hollow viewers as Sheriff Reyes or as Linda Vasquez on House of Cards. But you probably also know her as Fatima Qu’osby in the web series Halal in the Family.
As far as Jaffrey’s role on Sleepy Hollow, I’m hoping her role gets expanded a whole lot more. As I wrote in this post, we need to know if Reyes is evil or not. Clearly, Mark Goffman didn’t really care about fleshing out Reyes as a character, since he was so hellbent on making Katrina the new Abbie, but Reyes was touted as a sheriff similar to Irving; someone who runs a tight ship, but still has feelers in everything and could be a great ally or a tough villain to shake. Let’s see what Reyes can do, Clifton Campbell!
As for Fatima Qu’osby, she sounds like a cool character, according to her description on the Halal in the Family site.
I’ve written on Twitter that I’m going to watch Halal in the Family; I still haven’t gotten around to it because one of my weaknesses is planning accordingly. But it’s on my to-do list; a Halal in the Family review will be on this site at some point in the very near future.
Fatima Qu’osby is the family ballast. The American Muslim voice of reason, striking the right balance between her cultural identity and the country she loves. Of course, it’s a balance that her husband has never seemed to master. So as the real head of the family, she is charged with righting the ship whenever her feckless, but well-meaning husband steers it into various cultural icebergs. She has been with Aasif since they met in college and has learned to take the good with his bad. Well-liked by her neighbors and community, she is not just her family’s voice of reason, but the voice of reason for the entire show.
Likes: Truth, justice, education, her family, her faith, Clair Huxtable, home cooked meals, and her husband when he’s not completely embarrassing himself.
Dislikes: Her husband when he’s completely embarrassing himself.
