Viola Davis is smart, kind and important. If you’re a Viola Davis fan, you know what film I’m referencing with that specific introduction.

In every role Davis has, big or small, uplifting or outrageous, she manages to bring tons of humanity to her characters. Even in a role like Aibileen from The Help (the referenced film in this post’s opening), a role that could have been very stereotypical, she manages to breathe life into it. In short, her talent is out-of-bounds, and Hollywood should do better about showcasing her.

And perhaps, Hollywood is beginning to give her her just due. Fresh off the heels of her amazing turn as Annalise Keating in How to Get Away with Murder, she’s now playing Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad. I was nervous about Suicide Squad, since the pictures looked, I hate to say it, goofy. But seeing everything in motion, though? It looks really good.

Just like I expected, Davis is giving it her all as Waller. I know there are some out there who are peeved that the movieverse Waller isn’t overweight, and I get it. But when it comes to the actor they chose, Davis certainly has that Waller-esque tenacity. I’m really excited to see her in the role.
