What do you think of this TV show? Sound off in the poll!
Hot off his Sexiest Man Alive recognition and his success with Moana, Dwayne Johnson is heading back to the movie theater next year with Baywatch. The film, also starring Zac Efron and Alexandra Daddario, pokes gentle fun at the original Baywatch TV show, complete with slow-motion running, over-the-top rescues, and the show’s overt focus on flopping boobs.
The premise of the movie is shaping up to be yet another buddy-cop type comedy, with the old school, seasoned vet (Johnson) begrudgingly taking on a young hotshot who is reckless, but still has the skills needed for the job (Efron). It’s a formula we’ve seen before. It’s also a formula that would be even more tired than it is now, but with Johnson’s charisma and charm, the film still manages to wring out some life from the genre.
There are also some surprises in store with this trailer, like a quick look at Priyanka Chopra’s HBIC-looking character, and a sly joke about racial privileges.
Check out the trailer below and see what you think! Baywatch comes to theaters May 2017.
It’s always once every decade or so that People Magazine actually gets their “Sexiest Man Alive” issue right. Turns out, we’re in one of those moments where the broken clock lands on the right time.
Moana star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been on people’s personal “sexiest man alive” lists for the longest, and finally, People has officially given him that title over Eddie Redmayne, who I figured would have won this title in any other year since he’s got Magical Beasts and Where to Find Them, despite Johnson also having a holiday movie (and several other films and projects this year) and being Hollywood’s most highest paid actor.
Johnson’s title comes just at the right time in this nation, when we could all use a much-needed pick-me-up. After being bombarded with so much racism and discrimination and sexism and everything evil, it’s nice to see a well-deserving (and brown) actor get some love in these trying times. It provides a little bit of hope, however shallow, that life isn’t as bad as some people are trying to make it become, and that life doesn’t have to be bad at all if we just love each other for their own brand of uniqueness and dare I say, sexiness.
Thanks, Dwayne, for being good looking and powerfully rich in Hollywood. Now, enjoy the reigning Sexiest Man Alive talk about his super-iconic fanny pack photo.
What do you think about The Rock getting this nom? Also, what do you think about the small number of folks People has deigned to give the Sexiest Man or Woman Alive title to? Certainly, there should be more.
NEW YORK, Oct. 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Fox Television announced today that it has made a put pilot commitment for The Untitled Dwayne Johnson/Brian Gewirtz/Andrew Gurland Wrestling Project, a comedy series inspired by the real life experiences of Dwayne Johnson and former WWE head writer, Brian Gewirtz.
The half-hour single camera comedy offers a behind-the-scenes look at a fictional professional wrestling outfit and chronicles the one-of-a-kind odd couple relationship that develops between a charismatic young Rock-like character and a painfully awkward comedy writer new to the world of wrestling. A fish out of water among all of these alpha males, this very beta former sitcom writer needs as much help as he can get navigating the extremely passionate, sometimes crazy and always unpredictable world of professional wrestling.
“This November will mark the 20th anniversary of my professional wrestling debut. I was 24 years old, putting in the hard work, making $40 bucks per match and had no clue of the long journey that lay ahead of me with characters and backstage stories so colorful you’d think there’s no way that can be true,” said Johnson. “The entertaining show that goes on in front of the crowd pales in comparison to the insanely entertaining show that goes on backstage. Brian and myself can’t wait to tell our stories.”
“Coming from Hollywood to the wrestling industry, with its intense backstage atmosphere and larger than life personalities, was a major culture shock,” said Gewirtz. “After working in the business for over 15 years, Dwayne and I had encounters and experiences that were unbelievable as well as unforgettable. We can’t wait to bring this project to the fans.”
“This has been a long time passion project and we’re thrilled to be jumping into the network comedic space on a topic we love and know so well,” said Garcia. “Fox, Gary Sanchez Productions and Andrew Gurland are the perfect partners to help us bring this story to life.”
“Ferrell and I met in the wrestling ring so doing this show with Dwayne Johnson brings us full circle,” said McKay. “And there’s no one more talented (or limber) than Andrew Gurland to steer this project.”
“I’ve always gravitated towards comedy that comes from a real place, which is why I jumped at the opportunity to work with Dwayne and Brian,” said Gurland. “Their stories about the real drama behind pro-wrestling’s larger than life spectacle are hilarious and surprisingly poignant. I hope I do them justice.”
The project is a co-production of Seven Bucks Productions and Gary Sanchez Productions in association with 20thCentury Fox Television. Seven Bucks Productions’ Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Brian Gewirtz along with Gary Sanchez Productions’ Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Kevin Messick will serve as executive producers. Andrew Gurland will write the pilot script and serve as an executive producer.

Who’s excited for Disney’s upcoming animated film, Moana? I’m excited, and this teaser trailer only makes me want to see more! Which means the teaser has done its job of teasing well. Check out the teaser below as well as the teaser poster. Moana, coming to theaters this Thanksgiving, stars Dwayne Johnson and introducing Auli’i Cravalho as the title character.
Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows why.
From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess & the Frog”) and produced by Osnat Shurer (“Lifted,” “One Man Band”), “Moana” sails into U.S. theaters on Nov. 23, 2016.
I have two pieces of Warner Bros. movie news to share! First, we’ve got the first look of Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman! It seems she looks the part.
It’s an exciting time in the Disney Princess world! The voice for their latest princess movie Moana, has been found in 14-year-old newcomer Auli’i Cravalho!
I’ve got some trailers, posters and promos for you guys! Some of this is from earlier this month, so forgive me for being behind on some of these things.
I’ve had a ton of movie casting news that flooded my inbox and Twitter feed last week, and I am only just now able to get to everything. So let’s get into everything.
