2 Reasons for the The Rise of the Special White TV Character

One thing I’d been thinking about this fall TV season is that along with there being tons of women of color paired with white men characters, there have also been a ton of white characters who are “special” in some way. Characters like Sleepy Hollow‘s Ichabod Crane, Supergirl (who is white-adjacent since she passes), The Player’s Alex Kane, Limitless’ Brian Finch, Minority Report‘s Dash and Blindspot‘s Jane Doe all have something that makes them stand out from the crowd. I have two theories as to why we’ve seen the rise of the Special, yet Marginalized White Lead, and why we might see more of this type of character for a while.

TV Review: “The Player” Takes The House

Synopsis (NBC):

From the executive producers of “The Blacklist” comes the action-packed Las Vegas-set thriller “The Player.” The series co-stars Wesley Snipes as a pit boss and Charity Wakefield as the dealer for a high-stakes game where an organization of wealthy individuals gamble on the ability of former military operative turned security expert Philip Winchester (“Strike Back,” “Fringe”) to stop some of the biggest crimes imaginable from playing out. Can he take them down from the inside and get revenge for the death of his wife, or is it true what they say: The house always wins.

The COLOR Fall TV Schedule!

It’s getting close to the fall TV season, so I spent part of the weekend actually developing my fall TV viewing/reviewing/recapping schedule (instead of what I usually do, which is wing everything the weekend before fall TV starts).

So, for everyone who loves reading my recaps and viewpoints on TV (and like interacting with me with my live-tweeting), there’s THE OFFICIAL COLOR SCHEDULE!

(All times listed are CT since I’m in the central time zone)
