With all of the hashtag activism going on with #BlackLivesMatter, I, of course had my eye on the latest hashtag created to combat xenophobia and racism; #illridewithyou.
Earlier Friday, Birmingham, AL protesters upheld the quickly-legendary tradition of #BlackLivesMatter and took to the streets, showing solidarity with the other protests happening all across the country.
If you follow my writing on Entertainment Weekly’s Community blog, you’ll know that I’m a huge black-ish fan. I recap the show regularly for the website and just last week, I was able to talk to Andre Jr. himself, Marcus Scribner!
Hip, hip hooray! Viola Davis has got a movie role that’s going to launch her into the comic book canon forever! It had been rumored (and fervently hoped for by many) that Davis would be considered for the role of Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad, and, as Latino-Review is reporting, that dream has come true!
I’ve been on a tirade about Exodus: Gods and Kings, and if I’m being honest, I think I’ll always be upset about that movie. But what I’m not upset about is that the film brought in only $8.6 million its first day in the theaters. That’s exponentially less money than what the studio was expecting to make, particularly to recoup the $140 million it took to make. Thanks to tons of bad press from mainstream outlets such as CNN (and many more that would take up a paragraph to name), and the #BoycottExodus movement merging with the #BlackLivesMatter movement (leading to die-ins in theaters and protests outside of them), the movie’s imagery has certainly made people think. It would seem that people are beginning to wake up to the fact that white actors in what should be roles for people of color looks stupid.
My sister Ashley is renowned in her circle of friends as being one of the best cooks ever. Since she now has quite the collection of self-created and tested recipes under her belt, she’s ready to share them with other cooking enthusiasts.
Over the course of this week, Ashley will feature three recipes that you can pair together to have a complete Mexican-inspired dinner! I’ve eaten the results of these recipes, and I can tell you that they are delicious.
The first Mexican-inspired recipe this week is for pork tacos. The recipe for Cilantro Lime Coconut Rice (pictured with the tacos) is coming later this week.
So, I thought Benedict Cumberbatch was highly uncomfortable when it came to Sherlock fanfiction. I would have never pegged him as a person who intently thought about just how Sherlock would have sex (even down to what items he’d use). But, ol’ Cumberbatch has surprised me.
It’s been literal years since fans started the call for Marvel to make a Black Panther film, and the call has finally been answered! Though Marvel might act like it’s all their idea, it would seem that the film would never have gotten made if Stan Lee didn’t pressure them into it, what with his public statements about it being on the film schedule and all.
Either way, we’ve got our film coming Nov. 3, 2017 and our lead is played by Chadwick Boseman! You probably already know about Boseman; he’s played Jackie Robinson in 42, James Brown in Get on Up, and also had a small, little advertised role in Draft Day, starring Kevin Costner. He’s had such acclaim with the first two roles, and now he’s adding “First Black Marvel Studios Lead” to his already-illustrious resume.
We’ll get to see Chadwick “T’Challa” Boseman in Black Panther, of course, but he’ll also have a role in Captain America: Civil War and many other films that probably weren’t announced during Marvel’s Phase 3 Event; Boseman’s signed on for five years. A lot of films can be made in that time, as Marvel’s slate proves.
