Exclusive Interview: Loren Anthony Discusses "Ridiculous Six"

I’ve been covering the news surrounding The Ridiculous Six for about a week now, and I’m very excited to say that I was able to speak directly to one of the actors who left the film, Loren Anthony.

In this interview, Anthony details what the general feeling was on that particular day of filming and his personal feelings when it came to the absurdly offensive treatment of his people and culture, as reflected in the leaked script. I know there are those out there that have wanted to know how much the actors knew about the film before signing on; Anthony covered this and much more in our phone call, which you’ll read below.

"Fresh Off the Boat" recap: "Very Superstitious"

Fresh Off The Boat‘s latest episode, “Very Superstitious,” was also very funny. But the show has made headlines for another reason outside of this being one of the funniest episodes yet. The real Eddie Huang has been tweeting about his displeasure with the show, and I’ll get to that bit of news and my (unsolicited) opinions later on in another post, since I actually have a lot of historical TV stuff to bring into the equation. But first, the recap!

"Downton Abbey" recap: Ep. #5.6

It looks like I’m back to really hating Mary, but other than Mary’s story spinning its wheels—because just how uninteresting is it seeing a woman get her way with men all the time while railroading her unfortunate sister and Lady Fox?—some other stories are coming along rather nicely (if we’re grading on a curve).

Queer Coded: Thranduil ("The Hobbit" Franchise)

I’ve been thinking about Thranduil a lot. Most of my thinking has been about how I knew people would receive him, as shown by this article and lots of things on Tumblr and this Twitter page. Even I have talked about Thranduil in a slightly “fabulous” manner, describing him to my siblings and in a movie review as the Mariah Carey of The Hobbit. If you’ve seen The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, you may or may not have thought something along these lines as well. But the question is: Why did we think this? To break it down further, what in Thranduil’s characterization led a lot of people to assume that Thranduil was, to use the loaded term again, “fabulous”?
